I was delighted to be invited as one of the team on board the StartUp Britain bus for its last stop at York St John’s University last Friday. There  is nothing more exciting for an entrepreneur than encouraging more people to start and grow their own business!

Marmite – a lesson for would be exporters

Marmite, one of Unilever’s major brand, is no stranger to controversy. Ever since it was launched in the UK in 1902 the brand has become well versed in raising a few eyebrows as well as bringing smiles to many faces for its distinctive taste. That it should be banned in Denmark as it falls foul of a law restricting products fortified with added vitamins is something else…

Taking responsibility: Nobody did it!

“This is a story about four people named Everybody, Somebody, Anybody and Nobody.

There was an important job to be done and Everybody was asked to do it.

Everybody was sure Somebody would do it. Anybody could have done it, but Nobody did it.

Somebody got angry about that, because it was Everybody’s job. Everybody thought Anybody could do it, but Nobody realised that Everybody wouldn’t do it.

Marketers get marketing!

Having had to work hard throughout my career at flying the strategic marketing flag high to ensure that my budgets didn’t get axed, I know just how important it is for marketers to show marketing leadership. After reading the excellent article published in Marketing Week by Mark Choueke “It’s time to show marketing leadership”, I feel it’s time once more to get the sword out of the stone.
